Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate to the NDC flagbearer, has asserted her pride and confidence in her age.
Addressing statements made by the Effutu Member of Parliament in March 2024, where he labelled her as an “old cargo” and criticized her performance in previous government roles, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang underscored her experience and wisdom as invaluable assets.
During an engagement with female media professionals in Accra, the 72-year-old former Education Minister expressed her gratitude for her years and emphasized that divine hands guide her life.
“Let everybody understand that I’m very proud of every minute God has given me and if He gives me more, I’ll be more grateful.
“My life is in His hands, not anybody’s hands. I don’t consider my age as a nuisance, I consider it as a blessing,” she stated.
She challenged the relevance of the criticism, pointing out the absence of accusations regarding corruption or misconduct.
“What else is there to say? Is that all they could say? Did they also say that I was corrupt? Why couldn’t they say that I was insulting people?”
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang called for a focus on more substantive issues rather than what she termed “unnecessary and unuseful distractions.”
Reflecting on her journey, she expressed contentment and faith in her future adding, “I’m happy with myself, I’m proud of how far God has brought me, and I believe God will take everybody much further.”
