Spain are FIFA World Cup champions once again after Ferran Torres struck the decisive goal in the 106th minute of extra time to secure a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Argentina in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.
Torres finished brilliantly after meeting a clever backward header from Nico Williams, breaking Argentina’s resistance and handing La Roja their second FIFA World Cup title, adding to the trophy they won in South Africa in 2010.
After 90 minutes failed to separate the two football giants, Spain continued to dominate possession and create the better chances in extra time, with Argentina playing with a man down after Enzo Fernandez saw a second yellow for dangerous play.

The breakthrough finally came in the 106th minute when Pedro Porro delivered a dangerous cross into the penalty area. Nico Williams brilliantly nodded the ball backward into the path of Ferran Torres, who calmly fired past Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano MartÃnez to send Spanish supporters into wild celebrations.
Defending champions Argentina fought courageously throughout the final but struggled to create meaningful attacking opportunities against a disciplined Spanish side.
Goalkeeper Emiliano MartÃnez produced a string of outstanding saves to keep Lionel Scaloni’s side in the contest. Spain’s relentless pressure, however, eventually paid off after Argentina were reduced to 10 men late in normal time following the dismissal of Enzo Fernández.
Managed by Luis de la Fuente, Spain capped an outstanding tournament with victories over Portugal, Belgium, France and Argentina in the knockout stages.
The victory marks Spain’s second FIFA World Cup title, 16 years after lifting their maiden trophy in 2010 in South Africa, while denying Argentina the chance to successfully defend the crown they won in Qatar in 2022.
