Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has thanked President-elect John Dramani Mahama, the National Executives, and the Parliamentary Leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for re-nominating him as Speaker for the 9th Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana.
Rt. Hon. Bagbin described the re-nomination as both a privilege and a significant responsibility.
He reaffirmed his dedication to justice, fairness, and the rule of law, pledging to guide Parliament into a new chapter of Ghana’s democratic journey.
The decision followed extensive consultations among the President-elect, the NDC’s National Executive Committee, and the party’s Parliamentary Leadership.
President-elect Mahama, in a statement signed by his Special Aide, expressed confidence in Bagbin’s ability to lead Parliament effectively, citing his distinguished parliamentary career, including his tenure as a Member of Parliament for Nadowli Kaleo.
Bagbin assured Ghanaians that Parliament under his leadership would uphold integrity, transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness.
He committed to strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring Parliament addresses the needs and aspirations of the people.
“I will, more than ever, dedicate myself to the task ahead, working tirelessly to fortify our democratic institutions,” he declared.
This re-nomination marks Bagbin’s second term as Speaker of Parliament, a position he has held with distinction, earning bipartisan respect for fostering dialogue and consensus-building.
With this renewed mandate, Bagbin is set to play a critical role in navigating the political dynamics of the 9th Parliament.
