The Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Bagbin, has called on his Liberian counterpart, Hon. Richard Nangbe Koon, to lead by example and foster unity in the House of Representatives of Liberia.
He urged Hon. Koon to set aside partisan conflicts in favor of collaboration, working together to rebuild a spirit of trust and hope for the Liberian people.
“Let us put aside the barriers that divide us and build the consensus needed to move Liberia forward. Let us be the leaders our people deserve,” he emphasized.
According to Speaker Bagbin, the Liberian people are counting on their leaders to rise above division and work collectively for national progress.
He encouraged them to embrace the opportunity for change and reconciliation, demonstrating that unity is not only possible but essential for Liberia’s development.
Building consensus, he noted, is not about finding easy solutions or merely agreeing for agreement’s sake. Instead, it involves engaging in honest, respectful dialogue, understanding diverse perspectives, and, most importantly, prioritizing the country’s future.
“It is about recognizing that, while you may differ on many issues, you share a common commitment to the prosperity and well-being of your nation,” he stated.
He emphasized that Liberia’s challenges—whether in infrastructure, education, healthcare, or economic development—demand collective effort and stressed that leaders must listen, genuinely hear the concerns of those they represent, and consider the long-term impact of their decisions.
Speaker Bagbin urged Hon. Koon to place the interests of the Liberian people above partisanship and personal gain. He stressed that a unity-driven approach would be the foundation upon which Liberia builds progress.
“Together, Hon. Koon can create a legislative environment where cooperation, respect, and shared purpose drive decisions. At the end of the day, you will stand proudly, knowing that you contributed to the advancement of this great nation,” he added.
He encouraged representatives not to be consumed by disagreements but to focus on the bigger picture—building a future where every voice is heard, every concern is addressed, and every citizen has the opportunity to thrive.
“The road to reconciliation is not always easy, but it is one worth taking. Through dialogue, mutual respect, and dedication to finding common ground, you can forge a path that reflects the best of who you are,” he advised.
Speaking on the theme “Unity and Reconciliation”, Speaker Bagbin urged lawmakers to embrace a spirit of reconciliation, approaching one another with empathy and recognizing their shared love for Liberia.
He called for dialogue that builds bridges rather than walls, seeks understanding rather than victory, and upholds their collective responsibility to ensure a prosperous future for Liberia.
