The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Daffiama-Bussie-Issa, James Wor, has defended his administration’s management of the Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) Fund following concerns raised by Parliament’s Local Government and Rural Development Committee over the alleged misuse of the fund by district officers.

Speaking to journalists after the Committee’s sitting on Friday, Mr. Wor said the issue of mismanagement of disability funds had already been addressed since he assumed office.

“It’s not about what I will do; it’s about what I’ve done already,” he said. “Since I came, the disability committee has been very active, and anytime they bring their proposals, they are worked on. Even two weeks ago, we disbursed money to some applicants to use for their livelihood support.”

The Committee, chaired by Queenstar Pokuah Sawyer, had earlier issued a stern warning to the district’s coordinating director and finance officer for allegedly dipping their hands into funds meant for PwDs for other purposes, describing the act as embarrassing and unacceptable.

Mr. Wor, however, maintained that under his leadership, the assembly had taken concrete steps to ensure transparency and prompt disbursement of the disability funds.

He also highlighted key challenges confronting the district, including poor road infrastructure, inadequate educational facilities, and weak security presence.

“Our road network is bad, and we also have inadequate educational facilities,” he said. “Security visibility is so poor because we do not have a police command of our own. But I’ve written letters to the IGP and other stakeholders, and I believe very soon we will have a police command established.”

The DCE further disclosed that the district had secured approval for a new secondary school at Daffiama, which he described as a major boost for education in the area.

“I’m happy to indicate that we’ve gotten approval for a secondary school for our district capital. We’ve written proposals, and the stakeholders from DBI helped a lot. The process is ongoing, and soon a contractor will be on site,” he said.

On internally generated funds, Mr. Wor admitted that the assembly is still struggling but noted that improvements had been made.

He also commended the area’s Member of Parliament, Dr. Sebastian Sandaare, for his continuous support toward development initiatives.

“The MP is doing very well,” he said. “Through his own initiative, he has drilled more than 40 boreholes in the constituency. He’s always been with the people, supporting both social and community activities — that’s why the people call him ‘Dola’.”

The DCE reaffirmed his commitment to transparency and accountability, promising to ensure that all development projects in the district are executed with integrity and in the best interest of residents.
