Binduri ambush: Ghana military repel gunmen, seven killed

A convoy under the protection of the Ghana Armed Forces, escorting about 140 civilians, came under heavy attack on Monday morning in the Binduri area of the Upper East Region, leaving three civilians dead.

The convoy, which was traveling from Bawku to Bolgatanga, was ambushed by unidentified gunmen who opened fire multiple times, according to a statement released by the military on Monday night.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Ghana Armed Forces on Monday night.

According to the statement, the armed escort responded swiftly, returning fire and successfully repelling the attackers. In the exchange, seven of the gunmen were killed. However, three civilians lost their lives, while one other sustained injuries.

During a follow-up operation to track down the fleeing attackers, security personnel retrieved a G3 rifle, two fully loaded magazines, and 176 rounds of ammunition. The items were recovered from a suspect who reportedly attempted to hide in a mosque.

Authorities have since arrested ten suspects in connection with the attack. The individuals are currently assisting security agencies with investigations.

The incident highlights escalating security concerns along the Bawku–Bolgatanga corridor, an area that has witnessed persistent tensions and sporadic violence in recent times.
