The Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has extended support to Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates in his constituency by distributing locally manufactured buckle sandals ahead of their exams.

The initiative, held at Methodist Park in his constituency on Tuesday, forms part of the MP’s broader commitment to improving student welfare while simultaneously promoting local enterprise within the constituency.

Addressing the candidates, Mr. Shaib urged them to approach the examinations with confidence and determination, assuring them of his unwavering support.

“This is not just about sandals; it is about showing you that your community believes in you. Go into the examination hall with confidence and make us proud,” he stated.

Mr. Shaib emphasized that the sandals were produced within the Weija-Gbawe constituency, highlighting the importance of supporting local artisans and businesses.

“These sandals were made right here in our constituency. By supporting local production, we are creating jobs and strengthening our local economy,” he added.

He noted that investment in local manufacturing remains a sustainable pathway to development while addressing the needs of residents.

The event also saw the presence of the Member of Parliament for Oforikrom, Michael Kwasi Aidoo, who commended Mr. Shaib for the initiative and encouraged the students to make the most of the opportunity.

Delivering brief remarks, Mr. Aidoo described the gesture as remarkable and symbolic of leadership that prioritizes the future of young people.

“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. If your Member of Parliament has decided to put footwear on your feet so that you can take that step, then it is something worth applauding,” he said.

He further inspired the students by stressing the importance of faith, determination, and preparation in achieving success.

“The best gift you can give to your MP is to pass your exams and do very well. When you succeed, you make him proud and justify the investment he has made in you,” he added.

Mr. Shaib also advised the candidates to remain disciplined and avoid examination malpractice, emphasizing integrity and hard work as the keys to success.

“Success comes from discipline and honesty. Stay focused, avoid distractions, and give your best effort,” he advised.

The students, visibly encouraged by the support, described the gesture as timely and motivating as they prepare for the crucial national examination.

As BECE candidates across Ghana prepare for their exams, which begin on Monday, 4th May, such interventions continue to underscore the role of proactive leadership in strengthening education at the grassroots level.
