The 1st Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Okaikwei Central Constituency, Alhaji Harruna Rafik, has been allegedly attacked by a group of masked men shortly after attending a mediation meeting over concerns surrounding the constituency’s ongoing polling station elections.

According to Alhaji Rafik, the attack occurred after a meeting chaired by the Greater Accra Regional Secretary at the residence of the Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah.

The meeting was convened to address a petition he had submitted regarding alleged irregularities and concerns over the conduct of the polling station elections.

In a statement, Alhaji Rafik claimed that about seven masked men descended on him immediately after he stepped out of the meeting venue.

He alleged that the attack took place in the presence of some constituency executives and directly in front of the MP’s residence.

According to him, his “only crime” was speaking out against irregularities and insisting on transparency, fairness, and due process in the electoral process.

Alhaji Rafik said he sustained injuries during the attack and subsequently reported the incident to the police.

He is currently receiving treatment at Lapaz Community Hospital.

The NPP constituency executive indicated that he remains determined to pursue justice and accountability.

Despite the ordeal, Alhaji Rafik stated that intimidation and violence would not deter him from defending what he described as the integrity of the party.

He called on the NPP’s regional and national leadership, as well as security agencies, to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that those responsible are identified and prosecuted.
