Parliament will host the 4th African Inter-Parliamentary Conference on Family and Sovereignty from June 3 to June 6, 2026, in Accra, in a high-level continental gathering expected to draw lawmakers, policy experts, academics, and civil society leaders from across Africa.

The announcement was contained in an official press statement signed by the Second Deputy Speaker and Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Hon. Andrew Asiamah Amoako.

According to the statement, the event will serve as a platform for African legislators and stakeholders to deliberate on pressing governance, social, and technological challenges shaping the continent’s future.

The Special Guest of Honour will be President John Dramani Mahama, whose participation is expected to highlight Ghana’s commitment to democratic governance and Africa-centred policy development.

The statement noted that key plenary sessions will focus on the impact of artificial intelligence and digital technologies on family systems, child protection, and social cohesion.

It added that delegates will examine the need for stronger ethical frameworks, data privacy protections, and responsible digital governance across African states, while also exploring ways to protect citizens from harmful online exploitation.

“Delegates will also discuss how African states can safeguard citizens from harmful digital exploitation while leveraging innovation to accelerate education, healthcare, and economic growth,” the statement said.

Food security and agricultural sovereignty are also expected to feature prominently, with discussions centred on strengthening resilient local food systems to ensure long-term continental stability.

The Inter-Parliamentary Conference will further explore the preservation of African cultural values, indigenous knowledge systems, and identity in the face of rapid globalization and technological change.

Participants are expected to deliberate on strategies to strengthen family institutions, promote values-based education, and empower young people to contribute meaningfully to national development while remaining grounded in Africa’s cultural heritage.

The statement emphasized that the conference will also deepen inter-parliamentary collaboration on governance, public policy, and continental integration, reaffirming Parliament’s role in protecting the dignity and sovereignty of African peoples.

As host, Parliament reaffirmed its commitment to promoting constructive dialogue, democratic cooperation, and policy innovation aimed at advancing peace, stability, and sustainable development across Africa.

Further details on speakers, participation and programme activities are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
