Goalkeeper Eloy Room produced a sensational display as Curaçao held Ecuador to a goalless draw in Kansas City, securing the Caribbean nation’s first-ever point at the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Despite relentless pressure from La Tricolor, Curaçao’s captain and goalkeeper stood firm with a string of outstanding saves to frustrate the South American side throughout the Group E encounter.
Ecuador started brightly and nearly broke the deadlock early on when Moisés Caicedo released Enner Valencia with a brilliant ball over the top.

Valencia found himself one-on-one with Room, but the veteran goalkeeper made a superb save to set the tone for an unforgettable evening.
Curaçao also showed attacking intent in the early stages, exploiting the spaces left by Ecuador as they pushed forward. Leandro Bacuna and Jürgen Locadia made intelligent runs and helped create opportunities for their teammates, but the Blue Wave were unable to convert their chances.
As the match progressed, Ecuador launched wave after wave of attacks in search of a breakthrough. However, they found no way past the inspired Room, who delivered one of the standout goalkeeping performances of the tournament.
With time running out, Ecuador intensified their pressure. Valencia came agonisingly close to scoring with a powerful header from a dangerous cross, only for Room to produce another magnificent save.
La Tricolor struck the woodwork three times and registered nearly 30 attempts on goal, but Curaçao’s resilient defence and the brilliance of their goalkeeper ensured the score remained goalless.
The result confirms Germany as Group E winners and secures their place in the Round of 32. Meanwhile, Ecuador, Côte d’Ivoire and Curaçao all head into the final matchday with hopes of progressing to the knockout stage still alive.
