The Ghana Police Service has arrested six private security guards in connection with the shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, at Kwabenya in Accra.
The arrests come after reports emerged that gunmen allegedly opened fire on the former legislator’s vehicle near the residence of her brother, Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, on Sunday amid rising tensions surrounding the Kristo Asafo succession dispute.
The Police confirmed, in a statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs of the Accra Regional Police Command, that the six suspects had been apprehended as investigations into the incident intensified.

Police further disclosed that a search operation at the scene led to the retrieval of five pump-action guns, one Taurus pistol loaded with seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, an additional magazine loaded with five rounds of 9mm ammunition, and communication equipment.
Preliminary investigations indicate that officers from the National Operations Directorate and the Intelligence Directorate, who were on special duty, responded to a distress call from a residence in Kwabenya.
Investigators established that a ceremony was underway at the residence of Mr. Tamakloe Safo Jehoshaphat, popularly known as Akofena, when Adwoa Safo reportedly arrived and requested access to the premises but was denied entry.
According to the Police, armed security personnel stationed at the residence allegedly discharged firearms during the confrontation, resulting in injuries to the former MP. Her vehicle was also found with multiple gunshot marks.
Earlier reports indicated that Adwoa Safo sustained an injury near her neck after several rounds were fired at her vehicle.
The six suspects and all exhibits retrieved from the scene have since been transferred to the Police Headquarters to assist with ongoing investigations.
The Police Service further stated that efforts are underway to identify and arrest all other persons connected to the incident as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the shooting.
