The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has issued a strong warning to aspirants contesting various constituency executive positions, directing them not to make cash payments to constituency election committees as nominations officially opened across the country on Monday.
Deputy General Secretary of the party, Haruna Mohammed, said all payments for nomination forms must be made exclusively through the party’s designated online payment platform.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Mohammed stressed that constituency election committees have not been authorised to receive money directly from aspirants.
“Today marks the opening of nominations, and people have started purchasing their forms. There is an online portal where payments are made before aspirants proceed to the committee with their receipts to collect the forms,” he explained.
He cautioned party members against making any cash payments to election officials, insisting that receipts generated from the online platform remain the only valid proof of payment.
The party opened nominations on Monday, June 22, with the exercise expected to close on Wednesday, June 24.
According to the electoral timetable, vetting of aspirants will take place from June 25 to June 27, while appeals arising from the process will be heard between June 28 and June 30.
Constituency executive elections are scheduled to be held nationwide on July 11 and July 12.
Mr Mohammed advised aspirants to obtain their forms through constituency offices and strictly comply with all guidelines and procedures outlined in the nomination documents.
Positions up for election include Constituency Chairman, First Vice Chairman, Second Vice Chairman, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Organiser, Women’s Organiser, Youth Organiser, Treasurer, and Communications Officer.
Under the party’s regulations, all aspirants must be members in good standing and satisfy the eligibility requirements stipulated in the NPP Constitution and electoral guidelines. They are also required to secure the necessary endorsements before submitting their nomination forms.
The constituency elections form part of the NPP’s nationwide reorganisation exercise aimed at strengthening party structures from the grassroots level ahead of future political activities and national elections.
