Deputy Minority leader, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has described the Akufo-Addo-led administration as “undoubtedly the worst government under the Fourth Republic.”
Citing widespread economic hardship, youth unemployment, and a crushing debt burden, the Ellembele MP expressed content that the people of Ghana have already given a resounding verdict on the nation’s true state.
Ghanaians, he said, are satisfied to finally see the back of the Akufo-Addo government, and quoting from Exodus 14:13 stated, “Fear you not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord. For the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you shall see them no more.”
“That verdict was very clear: economic hardship, huge debt overhang, high youth unemployment, hopelessness, and more,” he stated.
Commenting on the Message on the State of the Nation that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo delivered to Parliament on Friday, January 3, the Deputy Minority Leader referred to the results of the December 7 elections as evidence of public dissatisfaction.
“This abysmal record was confirmed when the people of Ghana returned the most overwhelming and emphatic vote of rejection of any government ever witnessed under the Fourth Republic,” he added.
Speaking on the International Monetary Fund (IMF) support received during Akufo-Addo’s presidency, Armah-Kofi Buah pointed out that Akufo-Addo was the first Ghanaian President who was cushioned by the IMF when he began his term in office and is being cushioned at the end of his term.
He also took a swipe at the President’s controversial promise to build a national cathedral, remarking, “Mr. President, you left something very important in your account. You left out an account of your promise to God to build Him a cathedral. But I will leave that between you and your God.”
Assuring Ghanaians of a better future under an NDC government led by former President John Dramani Mahama, Mr. Buah expressed hope for a brighter tomorrow.
He assured the good people of Ghana that hope is on its way and that President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC will lift them from the historic low and reclaim their place and glory as the Black Star of Africa.
“Bye-bye, Mr. President. It is finished,” he added.
