The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has challenged the defamation suit filed against him by Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin.
According to a TV3 Facebook post on September 3, 2026, Mr Gyamfi, through his lawyers, filed a motion asking the court to set aside or strike out the defamation suit brought against him.
The GoldBod CEO, who is also the National Communications Officer of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), reportedly argued that the suit is “incurably defective and incompetent”.

The latest development follows an earlier decision by Sammy Gyamfi to formally authorise his lawyers to accept service of the writ filed against him by Afenyo-Markin over alleged defamatory statements.
A notice filed with the High Court, General Division, Accra, shows that Mr Gyamfi, through his solicitors, Ayine & Partners, authorised the law firm to receive the writ of summons and other accompanying court processes on his behalf.
The notice, dated August 26, 2026, is titled:
“Notice to Accept Service of Writ on Behalf of the 1st Defendant in Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin v. Samuel Adu Gyamfi and Anor.”
The document was signed by Seth Nyaaba, Solicitor for the first defendant, on behalf of Ayine & Partners.
The lawyers indicated that they had received express instructions and authority from Mr Gyamfi to accept service of the writ and other originating processes connected to the case.
The legal battle stems from comments allegedly made against Alexander Afenyo-Markin, with the Minority Leader accusing Sammy Gyamfi and others of making defamatory statements about him.
Afenyo-Markin announced during parliamentary proceedings on August 24, 2026, that he had sued the GoldBod CEO and three others.
He said the suits were connected to allegations that he was an “extortionist.”
The Minority Leader disclosed that separate suits had been filed against Mr Gyamfi and the Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Eric Adjei.
According to Afenyo-Markin, one of the cases was filed at the Accra High Court against Sammy Gyamfi and the Multimedia Group Limited.
The suit, numbered GT/1029/2026, is titled Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin versus Samuel Adu Gyamfi and Multimedia Group Limited.
The second case, numbered GR/ACH/CC/C5/02/2026, was filed at the Achimota Circuit Court against Eric Adjei and Peace FM.
Afenyo-Markin said the legal action was intended to address statements he considered defamatory.
With Mr Gyamfi now challenging the action, the case is set to move into another stage of the legal dispute.
His lawyers are reportedly asking the court to strike out the suit on grounds that they consider the writ “incurably defective and incompetent.”
The latest application does not amount to a final determination of the defamation claims. The court will have to consider the arguments presented by both sides before deciding whether the suit should proceed or be struck out.
The legal dispute between Sammy Gyamfi and Alexander Afenyo-Markin comes amid heightened political exchanges between the governing NDC and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), with both men occupying prominent positions in Ghanaian politics.
