Vanity, waste, and ‘thieves’: Franklin Cudjoe’s scathing attack on NPP

IMANI Africa President, Franklin Cudjoe, has once again lashed out at the New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing the former ruling party of recklessness, economic mismanagement, and sheer incompetence in attracting meaningful foreign investment — while enriching cronies through what he described as “crooked deals.”

In a scathing response to a social media jab by Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, former CEO of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme, Mr. Cudjoe ridiculed the NPP’s economic record, likening the government’s much-hyped initiatives to “vanity projects” and “high school playground fights” with multinational corporations.

He didn’t hold back as he mocked the infamous $58 million National Cathedral foundation pit — which he sarcastically referred to as the “iconic hole” — and slammed the now-shelved $50 billion century bond plan proposed by former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, calling it odious and damaging.

“That would have made more impact than the USD 50bn century bond Ofori-Atta planned to launch and add more odious debt to the one he and his cousin contracted and wasted on vanity projects like the $58m iconic hole,” he stated sharply.

Franklin Cudjoe’s comparison

The Imani boss drew a direct contrast between the NPP and former President John Mahama, whom he credited with attracting $13 billion in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) during his four-year term — the highest under any president in the Fourth Republic. He said these investments in oil, energy, and infrastructure laid the foundation for the end of dumsor and the 7% average GDP growth seen in 2017 and 2018 — achievements he insists had nothing to do with the so-called brilliance of the NPP’s economic managers.

“Those positive growth figures were not due to any economic wizardry or dexterity of any team of special solid men. They were solely due to John Mahama’s far-sightedness,” he declared.

He lambasted successive energy ministers since 2017, including John Peter Amewu and Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), branding them “glorified local champions” who “talk big with no substance” and whose poor decisions triggered hefty judgment debts for the country.

Franklin Cudjoe further accused the NPP government of overseeing widespread looting, stating: “In 2024, only $618 million of foreign direct investment was recorded. One man, a low-profile director alone stole $7 million. Imagine how much has been raided by the uncountable big men and women. Thieves!”
