The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Achiase, Samuel Owusu Brako, has applauded the work of Parliament’s Committee on Local Government and Rural Development, describing its oversight role as crucial to promoting accountability and enhancing local governance across the country.

Mr. Owusu Brako gave the commendation after appearing before the Committee on Thursday to respond to audit queries and update members on ongoing development projects in the Achiase District.

According to him, the Committee’s work serves as an important checkpoint that ensures that Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) remain transparent and efficient in the management of public resources.

“The Committee on Local Government and Rural Development is doing very well. I’ve been following their proceedings, and today being my first time appearing before them, I’m impressed by how thorough and fair they are in their work,” he said.

According to the DCE such parliamentary scrutiny strengthens Ghana’s democratic institutions and ensures that the developmental agenda of the government is effectively implemented at the local level.

“Their oversight keeps us in check and makes sure the President’s vision for the people is carried out properly. This process helps improve governance and service delivery in our districts,” he added.

Mr. Owusu Brako also expressed satisfaction with the level of engagement and professionalism demonstrated by the Committee members during the hearing.

“They ask relevant questions, they listen, and they guide us on best practices. This level of collaboration between Parliament and local authorities is what will drive meaningful development,” he noted.

The Committee on Local Government and Rural Development has been holding a series of public hearings to review internal audit findings and assess the performance of MMDAs across various regions as part of efforts to promote transparency and good governance at the local level.

The DCE outlined a series of ongoing development initiatives and youth empowerment programs in his district, revealing that the Achiase District currently has about 15 legacy projects, with 10 of them at various stages of implementation or procurement. These include key health, education, and water projects aimed at improving livelihoods in the area.

Mr. Owusu Brako expressed optimism about future collaborations with sector ministries to fast-track development projects, noting that the district is in constant engagement with relevant stakeholders.
