President John Dramani Mahama marked his 67th birthday on Saturday, November 29, 2025, not with grand celebrations, but with quiet humanitarian gestures in Accra.

Accompanied by his wife and children, the President paid private visits to the children’s wards of the LEKMA Hospital in Teshie and the Maamobi Polyclinic in Nima, bringing relief, hope, and smiles to young patients and their families.

The compassionate outreach highlighted Mahama’s long-standing commitment to service, particularly to vulnerable groups.

During his visits, President Mahama personally distributed gifts and monetary donations to every child receiving treatment. Parents and guardians were also given cash support to ease the financial burdens associated with hospital care during the festive period.

According to staff, the visits sparked joy across the two facilities. “The children were so happy. You could see the smiles instantly. The families were deeply grateful. It was a big surprise for all of us,” a nurse at LEKMA Hospital said.

Patients’ families described the gesture as timely and touching, especially coming during the holiday season when costs are high.

A significant moment of the day occurred at the LEKMA Hospital, where President Mahama intervened directly to assist a critically ill young girl.

Upon reviewing her condition, he facilitated an emergency referral to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), ensuring she received urgent specialised care that had previously been out of reach.

One medical staff member described the action as life-saving: “His intervention made the difference. The child needed immediate specialist care, and the President made sure she got it without delay.”

In addition to assisting patients, President Mahama extended monetary gifts to healthcare workers at both hospitals, recognising their dedication and sacrifice.

He praised their commitment to caring for the most vulnerable. “You are the backbone of our healthcare system. Thank you for your selfless service,” he reportedly told the staff. Doctors and nurses expressed deep appreciation for the Presidential acknowledgement.

“It meant so much that he chose to spend his birthday with us,” a staff member at Maamobi Polyclinic said. “It really boosted morale.”

President Mahama’s decision to forgo large public celebrations in favour of private humanitarian visits resonated widely with the public.

The rare combination of compassion, direct action, and personal engagement has been praised by citizens who say it reflects leadership grounded in empathy.

His birthday, they noted, became less about celebration and more about meaningful impact.
