The recognition was conferred during a special Eucharistic Celebration held on January 30, 2026, at the Chapel of the Bishop of the Wa Diocese, in honour of the Speaker’s contributions to national development and public service.

Delivering a sermon at the ceremony, the Bishop of Wa Diocese, Most Rev. Francis Bomansaan, M.Afr., commended the Speaker’s exceptional leadership qualities and deep concern for the underprivileged.

“Upper West Region and Ghana are privileged to have a selfless servant leader and a virtuous Catholic as Speaker of Parliament,” the Bishop stated.

He noted that Rt. Hon. Bagbin’s leadership reflects strong moral values, discipline, and a genuine passion for social justice.

A citation presented to the Speaker described him as a leader shaped by Christian values and guided by integrity.

“Cast in the mould of a Christ-like leader, you are a paragon of humility, service, love and integrity. In an era where truth and integrity are rare qualities for public servants, you stand out as a towering figure whose honesty is a light leading the world out of darkness,” the citation read.

The citation further praised the Speaker’s commitment to ethical governance and accountability in public life.

In his acceptance remarks, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin expressed deep appreciation to the Catholic Church for the honour and pledged to continue serving the nation faithfully.

“I am grateful to the Church for this recognition. I humbly ask for your continuous prayers and spiritual guidance for the leadership of our country,” he said.

The Speaker emphasized the importance of faith-based institutions in promoting peace, unity, and good governance in Ghana.

Rt. Hon. Bagbin highlighted the immense contribution of the Catholic Church to Ghana’s development, particularly in deprived areas such as the Upper West Region.

“The Catholic Church has been very instrumental in the development of this country. In Northern Ghana especially, it remains the foundation stone of progress through education, healthcare, and social services,” he noted.

He commended the Church for establishing and managing some of the best schools and health facilities in the region, which continue to transform lives.

The Speaker encouraged the Church to sustain its commitment to both spiritual and material upliftment of vulnerable communities.

He assured that Parliament would continue to support the initiatives of religious bodies and faith-based organisations that contribute to national development.

“Parliament will always partner with religious institutions that promote human dignity, social justice, and development,” he added.

The ceremony ended with special prayers led by Bishop Bomansaan and a congregation of priests, who prayed for the Speaker’s good health, wisdom, and divine guidance.

The clergy invoked God’s blessings on Rt. Hon. Bagbin’s life and leadership as he continues to steer the affairs of Ghana’s legislature.
