The communications director for New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has fired a warning to the government, accusing it of political persecution and hinting at possible retaliation if power changes hands.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Thursday (14 May), Miracles Aboagye condemned recent arrests and detentions of opposition figures, describing them as political persecution and a deliberate misuse of state power.

“All we are saying is that the law does not include kidnapping and detention… apply the law that already exists,” he said.

Miracles Aboagye questioned why defamation, which he argued should be a civil matter, has become a criminal offence, leading to detention.

He cited cases involving opposition figures, insisting that expressing opinions, including criticism of judges, should not land anyone in jail.

“Since when has defamation become criminal to the extent that somebody can be detained?” he asked.

The ‘dosage’ warning

He warned that continued persecution could trigger retaliation should political power shift.

“If they don’t stop, they will be given the same dosage… ” You do me, I do you,” he said.

According to Miracles, a future administration led by Bawumia would ensure accountability through legal processes.

“All those who are involved… would face the full force of the law,” he stated, adding that such action would deter future abuses of political authority.

He urged security agencies and judicial actors to remain independent, warning that continued alleged abuses could threaten democratic stability.
