The Director of Media Relations of Ghana’s Parliament, Mr Sebastian David Damoah, has expressed satisfaction with a benchmarking visit to the Kenyan Parliament, describing the experience as insightful and valuable to ongoing efforts to improve parliamentary communication and public engagement in Ghana.

Mr Damoah commended the leadership and staff of the Kenyan Parliament for the warm reception and hospitality extended to the seven-member Ghanaian delegation during its stay in Nairobi.

The visit, he said, has provided the delegation with firsthand exposure to best practices in parliamentary broadcasting, media relations and public engagement, offering important lessons that would inform reforms in Ghana’s Parliament.

According to him, the openness and willingness of Kenyan officials to share both their achievements and operational challenges have enriched the learning experience.

He particularly praised the hospitality extended to the Ghanaian team since its arrival in Nairobi, describing it as a reflection of the strong cordial relations between the two sister Parliaments.

Mr Damoah identified live committee coverage, social media management, digital archiving and media accreditation as some of the key areas in which lessons from Kenya could help strengthen the operations of Ghana’s Parliament.

He expressed optimism that the knowledge acquired during the benchmarking visit would contribute to ongoing efforts to make Ghana’s Parliament more transparent, accessible and responsive to the needs of citizens.

The visit forms part of broader institutional efforts by Ghana’s Parliament to strengthen its media relations, improve the live broadcasting of proceedings and deepen public engagement through traditional and digital communication platforms.

The seven-member delegation, led by Mr Damoah, comprises representatives of the Parliamentary Press Corps (PPC) and staff of the Department of Media Relations.

During their engagements in Nairobi, the delegation studied the operations of key departments of the Kenyan Parliament, including the Parliamentary Broadcasting Unit, the Directorate of Media Relations and the Department of Information and Communication.

The team also received briefings on Kenya’s broadcasting arrangements, content development strategies, media accreditation procedures and plans to expand parliamentary broadcasting through additional equipment, a proposed 24-hour parliamentary television channel and an online radio station.

Mr Damoah expressed appreciation to the leadership and staff of the Kenyan Parliament for their cooperation, support and willingness to share institutional experiences throughout the visit.

He said the lessons gathered would be useful in shaping recommendations to strengthen parliamentary communication and improve public access to legislative activities in Ghana.
