Manhyia South Member of Parliament, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has appeared before the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), accompanied by his lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, following a court order authorising his arrest.

Mr Baffour Awuah appeared before the anti-graft agency on Thursday, October 1, a day after the Accra High Court issued a warrant for his arrest as part of an ongoing investigation.

The court also authorised EOCO to search for and seize documents considered relevant to the investigation.

EOCO told the court that it had exhausted reasonable means of securing the MP’s voluntary attendance and expressed concerns that documents relevant to its investigation could be concealed, altered or destroyed.

The arrest warrant followed an attempted arrest of Mr Baffour Awuah at the Accra High Court on September 23.

EOCO has maintained that the Manhyia South MP was invited twice in February 2026 but failed to honour the invitations.

Mr Baffour Awuah, however, has disputed that account, explaining that the invitations were connected to his former law firm, Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners, which represented SIC Life Savings & Loans Company Limited.

According to the MP, after the matter was referred to the Clerk to Parliament, a representative of the law firm appeared before EOCO on March 4, March 18 and April 30.

He said the representative provided investigators with the information requested, including a written statement.

The investigation centres on alleged unauthorised financial transactions at SIC Life Savings & Loans Company Limited.

The allegations being investigated include suspected financial loss, dissipation of public funds and money laundering. No finding of guilt has been established against Mr Baffour Awuah, and the investigation remains ongoing.

His appearance before EOCO marks a new development in the matter after the attempted arrest at the Accra High Court and the subsequent decision by the High Court to issue an arrest warrant.

The latest development is expected to allow investigators to proceed with their inquiries while the legal and procedural issues surrounding the case continue to unfold.
