The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Ghana, H.E. Andrei Eduardovich Ordash, has paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, as the two sides seek to strengthen Ghana-Russia relations.
The meeting focused on deepening bilateral cooperation and strengthening ties between the two countries, with discussions covering trade, development, technology, military cooperation and parliamentary relations.
During the meeting, Ambassador Ordash invited the Speaker and Members of Parliament to participate in the 3rd Russian-African Summit.

He stressed the opportunities the summit presents for African countries in areas including bilateral trade, development cooperation and the exchange of new technologies.
The Ambassador said Ghanaian parliamentary participation would add a valuable dimension to the summit’s deliberations and further strengthen Ghana-Russia relations.
The discussions also touched on a significant inter-governmental agreement signed between Ghana and Russia in 2026 for military-technical cooperation.
According to the Ambassador, the agreement requires parliamentary ratification before it can take effect, underscoring the important role of Parliament in translating bilateral commitments into practical cooperation.
The development is expected to further broaden the scope of Ghana-Russia relations, particularly in areas of defence and technical cooperation.
The meeting also considered the Russian-Parliament Friendship Association, with both sides expressing optimism that the composition of Ghana’s new Parliament would help strengthen the association and deepen inter-parliamentary ties.
The initiative is expected to provide an additional platform for lawmakers from Ghana and Russia to exchange experiences and enhance parliamentary cooperation.
In his remarks, Speaker Alban Bagbin recounted his previous visits to Russia and the productive engagements he had with his Russian parliamentary counterparts over the years.
He also highlighted his role as part of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Geo-Political Team taskforce involved in efforts to mediate the Russia-Ukraine war.
The Speaker said Ghana’s participation in such international efforts reflects the country’s commitment to global peace, diplomacy and dialogue.
Mr Bagbin called for stronger cooperation between the Parliament of Ghana and the Russian Embassy, reaffirming the shared commitment to mutual prosperity and continued collaboration.
The meeting forms part of ongoing efforts to deepen Ghana-Russia relations through diplomatic, parliamentary and economic engagement.
