President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Emelia Afi Agbenyo and Dr Joseph Kweku Asamoah as Deputy Chairpersons of the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana.
Agbenyo is the Deputy Director for Operations at the Ghana TVET Service, while Dr Asamoah is a former Director of Finance at the Electoral Commission and a law lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
Dr Asamoah previously held several senior positions at the EC, including Director of Finance, Director of the Training Centre and Head of Audit.

His experience within the commission spans financial management, training and auditing, areas relevant to the administration and oversight of electoral operations.
The appointments follow changes in the commission’s senior leadership, including the resignation of Dr Bossman Asare, who was responsible for Corporate Affairs, effective July 31, 2026.
The changes also follow the retirement of Samuel Tettey, the former Deputy Chairperson in charge of Operations, after reaching the mandatory retirement age.
The Deputy Chairpersons appointments are expected to fill vacancies arising from the departures and support the commission’s leadership in carrying out its constitutional mandate.
The Electoral Commission is responsible for organising and supervising public elections and referenda in Ghana, making its leadership central to the country’s electoral administration.
