President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to complete 30 abandoned E-block school projects across the country as part of efforts to improve educational infrastructure and expand access to secondary education.
The President announced on Thursday, August 13, 2026, when he engaged residents at Paga in the Upper East Region as part of his ongoing nationwide engagements with citizens.
According to President Mahama, the government has made provision in the 2026 Budget to complete the abandoned projects, stressing that leaving infrastructure on which public funds have already been spent amounts to a waste of taxpayers’ money.

“Any project into which government has sunk money already, if you don’t finish it, it is a waste of the taxpayers’ money,” he said.
President Mahama said Paga Senior High School was among the E-block projects selected for completion and had now been transformed into a modern educational facility.
He explained that students at the school had previously been learning under difficult conditions because the facility had remained incomplete.
“This school is one of them. We finished it. The children were using part of the facility in very, very terrible conditions. Today they have a very beautiful brand-new school which will improve their learning and outcome,” he stated.
The President said the completion of the school was intended to provide students with a more conducive environment for teaching and learning.
President Mahama subsequently directed the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) to expedite the provision of furniture and other essential equipment required to make the Paga Senior High School fully operational.
He said the government is committed to ensuring that completed educational facilities are properly equipped and put to productive use.
The completion of the 30 abandoned E-block projects, he added, forms part of the government’s broader effort to protect investments already made in the education sector while improving access to quality secondary education.
The E-block programme was initiated to provide modern school infrastructure, particularly in underserved communities, and expand opportunities for students to access secondary education closer to their homes.
