President John Dramani Mahama has issued a terse warning to Ministers and political appointees, directing them to deliver on their responsibilities or risk losing their positions.
The warning was contained in a notice to all Ministers and political appointees signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr Callistus Mahama.
President Mahama stressed his determination to enforce discipline, accountability and effective leadership across all sectors of his administration.

According to the notice, recent changes to the government’s ministerial structure, the dissolution of selected boards and the impending reshuffle of Chief Executives demonstrate the President’s resolve to strengthen institutional leadership and improve coordination within government.
The measures, the Presidency said, are also intended to ensure that all political appointees remain aligned with the government’s policies and priorities.
“The President expects all Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Chief Executives, Board members and other political appointees to deliver on their responsibilities with integrity, diligence, humility and respect for established administrative procedures,” the statement said.
The notice further warned that conduct capable of undermining government cohesion, institutional authority or the effective implementation of government policy would not be tolerated.
Discipline
The Presidency reminded Mahama Ministers and other political appointees that public office is a privilege and an opportunity to serve the Ghanaian people.
It said performance across all sectors of government would continue to be assessed as the administration seeks to improve the delivery of its programmes.
“The President will take any further action necessary to safeguard the integrity, effectiveness and responsiveness of his Administration,” the notice warned.
The latest directive comes amid changes within the government, including recent ministerial appointments and the dissolution of some governing boards.
The warning is being interpreted as a clear signal that President Mahama expects Ministers, Chief Executives and other appointees to demonstrate greater commitment, discipline and results in the execution of their duties.
Tougher action
The President’s latest warning places increased pressure on members of his administration to deliver on their mandates.
With the government continuing to implement its policies and programmes, the Presidency has indicated that political appointments will not shield officials from scrutiny over their performance or conduct.
