President John Dramani Mahama has nominated ten regional ministers for parliamentary approval.
The nominees include Adolf John for the Northern Region, John Kwadwo Gyapong for the Oti Region, James Gunu for the Volta Region, Mrs. Rita Akosua Adjel Awatey for the Eastern Region, and Ibrahim Tia for the North-East Region. Others are Dr. Frank Amoakohene for the Ashanti Region, Akamugri Donatus Atanga for the Upper East Region, Charity Gardiner for the Ahafo Region, Salisu Bi-Awuribe for the Savannah Region, and Linda Ocloo for the Greater Accra Region.
Six regions—Bono, Bono East, Central, Western, Western North, and Upper West—remain without nominees.
The Presidency has communicated these regional ministers-designates to Speaker Alban Bagbin, requesting the vetting and confirmation of the candidates. This initiative represents a significant step in the President’s efforts to enhance governance and ensure effective administration across the regions.
In addition, President Mahama plans to announce key security appointments by the end of the week to address the ongoing conflict in Bawku and its surrounding areas.
While addressing the chiefs and people of the Kusaug Traditional Area at the Bawku Naba Palace, President Mahama underscored the importance of these security appointments in his administration’s strategy to restore peace and stability to the conflict-ridden region.
“This week, I will appoint the Minister for Defence, the Minister for Interior, the National Security Coordinator, the National Security Advisor, and the BNI Director. Once appointed, I will direct them to prioritize restoring peace in Bawku,” he stated.
This development follows the recent nominations of ministers-designate for Finance, Energy and Green Transition, and the Office of the Attorney General and Justice.
