Speaker of Parliament Alban S.K. Bagbin has issued a stern one-week ultimatum to the unidentified MP who hurled the inflammatory “daughter of a murderer” remark during a session, demanding they step forward or face severe repercussions.

The directive came on Tuesday, March 4, as Bagbin condemned the statement as a reckless assault on parliamentary dignity.

The outburst, traced back to a February 4 debate marking the 60th anniversary of Joseph Boakye Danquah’s death, targeted Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, MP for Klottey Korle and daughter of the late President Jerry John Rawlings.

During a speech by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, a male voice from the backbench shouted, “Daughter of a murderer, sit down!”—igniting chaos and outrage in the chamber.

The remark alluded to long-standing, contentious claims tying Rawlings to historical political killings.

Bagbin announced a formal probe to unmask the culprit, vowing “decisive action” if they fail to confess by the deadline.

“Such behavior erodes the honor of this House,” he declared, reaffirming his resolve to safeguard Parliament’s integrity.

The Majority Leader echoed Bagbin’s stance, urging the MP to own up and warning that the House would back the harshest penalties if the investigation named them.

The incident has fueled public fury, with calls mounting for accountability and tougher rules on parliamentary conduct.

As the clock ticks, the controversy deepens, spotlighting the fragile line between free speech and decorum in Ghana’s legislature.
