The Ministry of the Interior has declared Monday, March 31, and Tuesday, April 1, 2025, as Statutory Public Holidays to be observed nationwide in celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr.

The Ministry announced that this year’s Eid-ul-Fitr is expected to fall on Sunday, March 30, 2025. Since March 30 falls on a Sunday, the government has declared two additional days—March 31 and April 1—public holidays.

A press statement issued and signed by Interior Minister Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka on Saturday, March 22, 2025 states, “The general public is hereby informed that Sunday, March 30, 2025, or Monday, March 31, 2025, marks Eid-ul-Fitr, which is a Statutory Public Holiday.”

“However, in view of the fact that March 30, 2025, falls on a Sunday, and in the interest of the public, His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, has, by Executive Instrument (E.I.), in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601), has declared Monday, March 31, 2025, and Tuesday, April 1, 2025, as additional Public Holidays to be observed as such throughout the country.”

Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting. The festival is celebrated by Muslims across the world with prayers, feasts, and acts of charity, signifying the conclusion of 29 or 30 days of dawn-to-sunset fasting.
