A mobile money vendor has shot and killed one of two armed robbers who attacked him at Lashibi in the Greater Accra Region, successfully recovering the entire GH¢140,000 stolen during the robbery.
The dramatic incident occurred on Friday, July 3, 2026, when the two suspects, riding on a motorbike, allegedly intercepted the vendor and opened fire on his vehicle in an attempt to rob him.
According to a statement issued by the Accra Regional Police Command and signed by the Head of Public Affairs, Chief Superintendent Juliana Obeng, the assailants fired at the vendor’s vehicle, damaging its rear tyre and windscreen before making away with the cash.

However, the Mobile Money vendor responded with gunfire as the suspects attempted to flee, fatally shooting one of the robbers at the scene.
The second suspect escaped on foot, abandoning the bag containing the stolen GH¢140,000, which the police recovered intact. The vendor escaped the attack without sustaining any injuries.
Police investigations at the scene led to the recovery of an AK-47 assault rifle, two magazines loaded with 55 rounds of live ammunition, an additional 11 rounds of ammunition, GH¢3,000 in cash, a Samsung mobile phone, and an identification card bearing the name Innocent Elemuwa Akachukeu, aged 46, from the deceased suspect.
Investigators also retrieved five AK-47 shell casings and two pistol shell casings from the crime scene as part of ongoing forensic examinations.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary for preservation, autopsy and formal identification.
The Accra Regional Police Command has since taken over investigations and launched a manhunt for the second suspect, who remains at large.
Police are appealing to members of the public with credible information that could lead to the suspect’s arrest to report to the nearest police station or contact the emergency numbers 18555 or 191.
