The Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) Secretariat has announced the immediate termination of contracts for all caterers under the national programme effective from May 2, 2025.

The directive halts food preparation for schoolchildren for the upcoming third term of the 2024/2025 academic year.

A formal notice issued by the GSFP Secretariat, signed by National Coordinator Hajia Fati Forgor, states: “Please be informed that contracts of all caterers of the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) nationwide have been terminated with immediate effect.”

The statement emphasized that no caterer should continue operations into the new school term, and that outstanding arrears from the second term would be settled “in due course.”

According to the Secretariat, the move is part of a broader restructuring initiative aimed at reforming the feeding programme to improve efficiency and accountability.

“The GSFP Secretariat, as part of its ongoing restructuring exercise, will soon announce the modalities for the recruitment of new caterers for the Programme,” the letter added.

The programme dogged by corruption under the previous administration, with funds meant for the programme allegedly siphoned into the pockets of individuals.

Several audits and civil society reports had raised red flags about financial mismanagement, ghost schools, and politicized contract allocations—issues that the current restructuring seeks to address.

The Ghana School Feeding Programme was established as part of the country’s commitment to the United Nations Millennium Development Goals, targeting hunger and extreme poverty among schoolchildren.

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP), under whose oversight the GSFP operates, has yet to comment publicly on the termination. Regional GSFP coordinators and the Controller and Accountant General were also copied in the official notice.
