Dr. Bryan Acheampong, the Member of Parliament for Abetifi has established an exploratory committee to evaluate a potential bid for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer for 2028.
This announcement, made in a statement signals a calculated step towards the NPP’s crucial internal contest ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The former Minister for Agriculture stated that his decision comes after a period of deep reflection, extensive consultations with his family, grassroots party members, and widespread calls from supporters across Ghana.
“I have taken time to reflect deeply on our journey as a Party and my journey within our political tradition,” he wrote, emphasizing his belief that the NPP stands at “a pivotal juncture which calls not only for unity but also for a renewed commitment to our core values.”
The newly formed exploratory committee is tasked with engaging various stakeholders, gauging the resonance of Dr. Bryan Acheampong’s vision with the aspirations of the Ghanaian populace, and presenting its findings within a concise four-week timeframe.
In his statement, he outlined key priorities that would form the bedrock of his vision should he formally enter the race. These include critical areas such as robust job creation, ensuring comprehensive food security, accelerating youth and infrastructure development, bolstering national security, and promoting good governance. He asserted that the committee shares his dedication to these principles, as well as to ‘discipline and unity within the Party.’
Dr. Bryan Acheampong stressed his extensive and deeply personal involvement in the NPP and detailed his journey from a grassroots organizer to a four-term Member of Parliament, a Cabinet Minister, a consistent party financier, and an active participant in numerous party and parliamentary committees. “These roles and experiences have granted me invaluable insights into the sacrifices, dedication, and strategic vision required to build and sustain the foundations of our Party,” he affirmed.
In a direct message to what he described as ‘patriots and beloved Ghanaians, the Abetifi MP expressed his unwavering confidence in the NPP’s future, stating, “I firmly believe in the Party’s capacity to overcome its challenges and once again lead Ghana towards a brighter future.”
He appealed for unity, discipline, and unwavering faith in the NPP’s collective mission, urging members to remain steadfast in spirit and decorous in conduct in the pursuit of progress, inclusivity, and effective leadership for Ghana.
