President John Dramani Mahama has announced that his administration will prioritize the completion of 35 hospitals under the troubled Agenda 111 programme.

This marks the start of a revised strategy to phase out the project and bring stalled facilities into use.

Speaking during a courtesy call on the Northern Regional House of Chiefs on Friday, President Mahama criticized the original decision to construct 111 hospitals simultaneously without proper phasing or sequencing.

“The approach resulted in several facilities stalling at different stages of completion,” he said, adding that some contractors allegedly abandoned sites after receiving mobilization funds.

The President disclosed that the government is now pursuing accountability measures to recover funds from defaulting contractors.

“Government this year is going to put money in and continue them and complete them, and then adequate provision will be made in the next budget to clear another batch,” Mahama stated.

In a major policy shift, he revealed that faith-based organizations and private health operators will be invited to adopt some of the hospitals, supporting their completion and management to expand healthcare access nationwide.

The revised approach, he stressed, reflects a broader commitment to value for money in public infrastructure and a determination to avoid half-built facilities that drain public resources without serving communities.
