Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food and Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, has been arrested at the Kotoka International Airport following allegations that he attempted to unlawfully access funds in a frozen bank account while standing trial over corruption-related offences.

The arrest was disclosed by the Deputy Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr Justice Srem-Sai, in a statement issued on Sunday, July 5, 2026.

According to Dr Srem-Sai, Mr Aludiba had obtained permission from the High Court to travel to the United Kingdom for a short visit.

However, authorities intercepted him at the airport after investigators uncovered what has been described as an alleged attempt to use false means to empty a frozen account held at Republic Bank.

The alleged incident is said to have occurred on Thursday, July 2, 2026.

The Deputy Attorney-General indicated that the Attorney-General’s Office will, on Monday, July 6, apply to the High Court for a review of the order that permitted Mr Aludiba to travel outside the country.

Mr Aludiba is currently facing trial on multiple criminal charges, including stealing and causing financial loss to the Republic, arising from his tenure as Chief Executive Officer of NAFCO, the state agency responsible for supplying food to beneficiaries of the Free Senior High School feeding programme between 2017 and 2025.

In May 2026, Mr Aludiba and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni, were re-arraigned before the High Court on 20 charges, including stealing, defrauding by false pretences, money laundering and abuse of public office.

The revised charges followed the withdrawal and restructuring of an earlier 24-count charge sheet by the Attorney-General.

The court granted the couple a combined bail of GH¢63.5 million under strict conditions, including the surrender of their passports to the court registry and periodic reporting to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

Prosecutors allege that Mr Aludiba diverted more than GH¢50 million belonging to NAFCO through several companies allegedly linked to him and his wife.

The companies named in the prosecution’s case include Sawtina Enterprise, Aludiba Enterprise, Energy Partners Limited and Fa-Hausa Ventures. Some of the transactions are alleged to have involved accounts maintained at Republic Bank’s Labone Branch.

The High Court has scheduled July 15, 2026, for the continuation of the trial.

Authorities are yet to disclose the exact method allegedly used in the attempt to access the frozen account, while Mr Aludiba’s current custody status following his arrest remains unclear.
