More than 10 students have been arrested following violent clashes between Okuapeman Senior High School (SHS) and Mount Sinai Senior High School in the Akuapem North Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The arrests followed a series of reprisal attacks between students of the two schools, which resulted in the burning and destruction of several structures on both campuses in the early hours of Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Wednesday, Eastern Regional Police Commander DCOP Joseph Owusu-Bempah said some students fled their schools when the police arrived, but warned that those who escaped would still be pursued.

“We have apprehended them. And there are more,” he said.
According to the Regional Police Commander, the police are compiling a comprehensive list of people suspected to have participated in the violence.
Police investigate
The investigation into the Okuapeman SHS and Mount Sinai SHS clash has also taken a new turn, with police examining allegations that some teachers may have encouraged students to attack their counterparts.
DCOP Owusu-Bempah said investigators had obtained the names of teachers allegedly linked to the incident.
He warned that the teachers would be arrested if investigations establish their involvement in the clashes.
“We have the names of the teachers. They have nowhere to go. At the appropriate time, we will arrest all of them, and their names will be published,” he warned.
The police commander assured the public that anyone found to have participated in the violence would face the law.
He also urged students to return to school and cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
The violent incident left at least six students of Okuapeman SHS injured.
The students were taken to hospital for medical attention following the clashes.
The school’s Headmaster said four of the injured students had been treated and discharged, while two remained on admission as of Wednesday.
The extent of damage to property at both Okuapeman SHS and Mount Sinai SHS is still being assessed following the attacks.
Interference
The Eastern Regional Police Command has urged individuals and groups to refrain from interfering with the investigation into the Okuapeman SHS clash.
DCOP Owusu-Bempah cautioned that any attempt to interfere with the police process could undermine efforts to restore calm and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
The police have intensified investigations to establish the exact circumstances that triggered the confrontation and identify all persons involved.
Despite the arrests, the exact trigger for the clashes between Okuapeman SHS and Mount Sinai SHS remains unclear.
The police are continuing their investigations to determine what sparked the confrontation and how the initial incident escalated into reprisal attacks and the destruction of property.
Authorities are expected to take further action as investigators establish the identities and roles of those suspected to have participated in the violence.
