The Director of Legal Affairs for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, has issued a warning to the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to prepare for the worst in the trial of Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.
According to Edudzi, the NPP is unaware of the full extent of the evidence against Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame.
Speaking to Accra-based Neat FM on Friday, May 31, 2024, Edudzi Tamakloe asserted that the NDC has presented evidence that the Akufo-Addo-led government intends to imprison Dr Ato Forson at all costs.
“If you can recall, when this issue started, my brother Nana B ignorantly stated that the recording was done at the home of a Supreme Court judge. On Tuesday, the recording was released, was it in a house? Wasn’t it a phone call?
“So, quite clearly, our brothers and sisters in the NPP do not know what is coming. They have no idea,” he said in Twi.
Edudzi Tamakloe also noted that the Attorney General has remained silent since these revelations, urging NPP members to consider this quietness.
Dr. Ato Forson has petitioned Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo for the trial’s proceedings to be broadcast live, a move prompted by the allegations against the Attorney General.
The NDC has accused Godfred Dame of unethical behaviour, asserting that he tried to manipulate Jakpa into implicating Dr Forson.
At a press conference on May 28, 2024, the NDC presented a 16-minute audio recording of a conversation between Godfred Dame and Richard Jakpa. In this recording, Dame allegedly instructs Jakpa to testify in a way that will implicate Dr Forson regarding the letters of credit (LCs) he signed.
Dame is also heard on the tape suggesting to Jakpa to feign illness and get a medical excuse to avoid testifying.
