Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has officially handed over the administration of the Ministry of Defence to Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, marking the end of his tenure as caretaker of the ministry.
The formal handover ceremony took place with both ministers signing the necessary documents to confirm the leadership transition.

Dr Ato Forson was appointed by President John Dramani Mahama to temporarily oversee the Defence Ministry following the tragic death of the substantive minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, who lost his life in the August 6, 2025 helicopter crash.

For the past year, the Finance Minister has diligently managed the affairs of the Defence portfolio while simultaneously handling Ghana’s economic agenda.
New Minister
With the official handover now complete, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei assumes full responsibility as the new sector minister for Defence.
Mr Adjei will now steer the affairs of the ministry, overseeing its operations, policy direction, and strategic initiatives moving forward.
The transition ensures continuity in Ghana’s national security and defence administration.
Focus on Finance Ministry
The handover brings an end to Dr Ato Forson’s interim leadership at the Ministry of Defence, allowing him to focus fully on his substantive role as Finance Minister.
This development is expected to strengthen the Finance Ministry’s capacity to address Ghana’s economic challenges while the Defence Ministry benefits from dedicated leadership under Kenneth Gilbert Adjei.
