Nana Takyi Poku Gyimah, Chief of Yefri in the Nkoranza North Constituency, Bono East Region, has criticized those who opposed the double-track system introduced under the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, calling their complaints baseless.
He also questioned the credibility of their proposal for a 24-hour economy, labeling it as inconsistent with their previous stance.
Speaking during a courtesy call by NPP Vice Presidential Candidate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, on Saturday, 31 August 2024, Nana Takyi Poku, a well-known educationist, defended the double track system, which was implemented as a temporary solution to accommodate the overwhelming rise in student enrollment following the introduction of Free SHS.
He praised the government for its innovative approach in managing scarce resources during the policy’s early stages.
“Critics of the double track system claimed it showed a lack of preparation on the part of policymakers, but now the same individuals are proposing a 24-hour economy where people will work day and night in shifts.”
“It makes no sense that they failed to recognize the practicality of the double track system but are now promoting this vague concept of a 24-hour economy,” the Chief remarked
He added that the proponents of this idea have yet to explain the details of their plan to Ghanaians, casting further doubt on its feasibility.
Nana Takyi Poku praised the NPP government, particularly Dr. Opoku Prempeh, for his leadership during the implementation of the Free SHS policy and the introduction of the double-track system as a solution to early challenges.
“Such boldness in leadership is exactly what Ghana needs to tackle the various issues facing the country,” he emphasized.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh expressed his gratitude to the Chief for acknowledging the NPP’s efforts, urging the people of Yefri to continue supporting the party and vote for both NPP’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and the parliamentary candidate for Nkoranza North, Jacqueline Boatemaa Bonsu.
