The Member of Parliament (MP) for Bawku Central, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, has been appointed the Majority Leader in Parliament.
The announcement was made by Speaker Alban Bagbin during a Parliamentary sitting on Thursday, January 23, 2025, following a reshuffle by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Secretariat.
Hon. Ayariga, a seasoned politician and Harvard-trained lawyer, takes over from Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, who has been appointed Finance Minister in President John Dramani Mahama’s second term.
Majority leader
The newly constituted NDC front bench includes Hon. Ricket Hagan as Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor as Majority Chief Whip, Hon. Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe-Ghansah as First Deputy Majority Whip, and Hon. Richard Acheampong as Second Deputy Majority Whip.
Hon. Ayariga, in his acceptance speech, pledged to lead with responsibility, inclusivity, and accountability.
“We are an overwhelming caucus but we will strive for inclusivity, consensus-building, and upholding the principles of probity and accountability,” he stated.
He further emphasized the importance of constructive dialogue in addressing challenges, saying, “Through constructive dialogue and mutual respect, we can overcome obstacles and deliver on our collective vision.”
Hon. Ayariga urged his colleagues to honour Ghanaians’ trust, emphasizing, “The people’s trust must inspire our actions and guide our decisions.”
“It is for them that we will build a prosperous, united, and democratic Ghana.”
