Deputy Communications Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ernest Owusu Bempah, has slammed the party’s decision to present Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the flagbearer for the 2028 elections.

He urged the party to reconsider its choice, warning that the former Vice President lacks the people’s connection necessary to secure a win for the NPP.

Speaking on Oyerepa TV, he claimed that the grassroots are disillusioned with his candidacy.

Owusu Bempah shared a personal experience of meeting an NPP member, a taxi driver, who revealed he voted for the NDC in the 2024 elections due to the party’s failure to select the right candidate.

Owusu Bempah believes that the discontent with Bawumia is widespread, and this was a significant factor in the low voter turnout in the last election, with 2.1 million NPP supporters refusing to cast their votes.

He further asserted that only former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, has the potential to lead the party to victory in 2028, claiming that the NPP base is demanding Agyapong as the flagbearer.
