A 24-year-old woman, identified as Mawuena Tamakloe, has been convicted by an Accra Circuit Court for stealing a television set belonging to the Church of Pentecost, Whistler Barracks Worship Centre, located within the Teshie Military Academy in the Greater Accra Region.
Tamakloe, who is unemployed and a resident of Tema Community 2, pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful entry and stealing.
Stolen television
The stolen item, a 50-inch Hisense UHD 4K flat-screen TV valued at GH¢8,900, was reportedly removed from the church’s premises on the morning of May 15, 2025. According to the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Clemence Takyi, the accused was spotted around 8:30 am by military personnel carrying the television in a box bearing the church’s inscription.
“The officers became suspicious due to her evasive explanation and immediately handed her over to the Military Police for further investigation,” Chief Inspector Takyi told the court.
Upon interrogation, Mawuena confessed to stealing the TV from one of the offices within the church auditorium. The inner wooden door to the head pastor’s office was found damaged during a follow-up visit to the crime scene by police and church officials.
“She admitted to the offences during interrogation and reiterated her confession in her caution statement,” the prosecutor added.
The complainant, Elder Ebenezer Oppong Aboagye of the Church of Pentecost, confirmed to police that the TV belonged to the church and had been stolen from within the church building.
In a surprising development, the court also ordered a pregnancy test to be conducted on the accused before sentencing. The judgment has been deferred to Thursday, May 22, 2025.
