The Private Newspapers and Online News Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG) has called on journalists to uphold ethical standards and safeguard media integrity as artificial intelligence continues to transform the industry.

In a statement by the President, David Sitsofe, Tamakloe, to mark World Press Freedom Day 2026, the Association aligned with the global theme “Shaping a Future at Peace” and adopted a sub-theme focusing on “Journalism in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Safeguarding Press Freedom and Media Integrity.”

He stressed that while AI offers opportunities for innovation, efficiency, and wider access to information, it also presents serious risks, including misinformation, manipulation, and ethical challenges that could undermine public trust in the media.

He urged members to embrace emerging technologies responsibly, stressing that accuracy, fairness, and human editorial judgment must remain central to journalistic practice.

“As we navigate the age of artificial intelligence, I urge all members to continue supporting Ghana’s democracy… Let your voices remain strong, your criticism objective, and your hope unshaken,” he said.

PRINPAG commended media practitioners for their resilience and professionalism despite economic pressures, safety concerns, and rapid technological changes, noting that their commitment to truth-telling remains vital to Ghana’s democratic development.

The Association further encouraged journalists to sustain their watchdog role by holding leaders accountable through objective and constructive criticism, without fear or favour.

It also assured members that efforts are underway to improve their welfare through advocacy, partnerships, and capacity-building initiatives aimed at strengthening the sustainability of the media sector.

Reaffirming PRINPAG’s commitment to press freedom, Da pvid Tamakloe called on journalists to adapt responsibly to technological advancements while preserving the integrity and credibility of the profession.
