GCB Bank PLC has handed over a massive GHȼ5 million donation to support the Black Stars’ preparations for the FIFA World Cup 2026, reinforcing the Bank’s long-standing commitment to sports development and national unity.
The cheque presentation ceremony took place at the Bank’s Head Office on High Street in Accra, drawing senior officials from the Bank, football administration, and government.
Addressing guests, GCB Bank Board Chairman, Professor Joshua Alabi, said the Bank believes in investing in the aspirations and talents of Ghanaians, including sports development.

“GCB Bank is proud to support Ghana’s participation in the FIFA World Cup 2026, a moment of great national pride and unity. Football remains the single biggest unifying force in our country,” he said.
“Our donation of GHȼ5 million reflects GCB’s commitment to national development beyond banking and finance,” Prof. Alabi added.
GCB Managing Director, Farihan Alhassan, said the support forms part of the Bank’s broader mandate to strengthen national cohesion through impactful partnerships.
Receiving the donation, Sports and Recreation Minister, Hon. Kofi Adams, expressed profound gratitude, noting that the support will touch the lives of every Ghanaian passionate about the Black Stars’ journey.
He also revealed that through government support and fundraising efforts—including GCB’s donation—the Ministry has secured broadcast rights to telecast World Cup matches live on selected media stations.
