A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Team, Awal Mohammed, has launched a scathing attack on former Trade Minister and founder of the Movement for Change, Alan Kyerematen.

He claimed the former Trade Minister has never won any election in Ghana and lacks the political strength to secure victory in any future contest.

Speaking on Joy Prime Insight, Awal Mohammed argued that Alan Kyerematen’s political record demonstrates an inability to win competitive elections, despite being given several opportunities to represent Ghana on the international stage.

According to him, successive governments have supported Alan’s ambitions, but he has failed to translate those opportunities into electoral success.

“Alan Kyerematen has never won any election in this country,” Awal Mohammed stated.

He recalled Alan Kyerematen’s unsuccessful bid for the position of Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), noting that the Mahama administration supported his candidacy with state resources.

“President Mahama used state resources to sponsor Alan Kyerematen for the World Trade Organization position in 2013, but he lost. For me, that shows he cannot win elections,” he said.

Awal Mohammed also suggested that Alan Kyerematen’s electoral fortunes are so poor that he could lose even to individuals with little national political influence.

“Even if Solomon Owusu contests Alan Kyerematen for a flagbearer position, Solo will win,” he claimed.

The NPP communicator also cited other Ghanaian statesmen who had represented the country in international positions, arguing that Alan’s inability to secure victory on the global stage reflected a broader pattern of electoral failure.

Alan Kyerematen, a four-time NPP presidential aspirant, resigned from the party in 2023 and launched a new political movement aimed at providing what he describes as a viable alternative to Ghana’s traditional two-party system.
