Former MASLOC CEO Sedina Tamakloe Attionu has been extradited from the United States and is now in Ghanaian custody to begin serving a 10-year prison sentence for causing nearly GH¢90 million in financial loss to the state.
Attionu arrived at the Accra International Airport on Tuesday, June 9, aboard United Airlines flight UA 996, which landed at approximately 9:01 a.m. from Washington Dulles International Airport.
Sources confirm that security personnel took her into custody immediately upon arrival. She is currently undergoing debriefing and medical examinations as part of standard procedures before being transferred to the Ghana Prisons Service.

Convicted in absentia in 2024
An Accra High Court convicted Sedina Attionu in absentia in 2024, sentencing her to 10 years’ imprisonment for multiple offences, including causing financial loss to the state and stealing.
The court found that between 2013 and 2016, during her tenure as head of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), her actions resulted in a financial loss of nearly GH¢90 million to the state.
Medical trip turned flight
Attionu had initially been granted permission by the High Court in 2021 to travel to the United States for medical treatment while her trial was ongoing.
However, Sedina Attionu failed to return, prompting the court to continue the trial in her absence.
Following her conviction, the Government of Ghana formally requested her extradition in 2025. A US District Court in Nevada certified the request, paving the way for her return.
Her arrival marks a significant development in one of Ghana’s most high-profile corruption-related prosecutions involving a former state official.
Anti-corruption advocates have widely cited the case as a major test of Ghana’s ability to pursue and secure the return of convicted public officials who flee the country while facing criminal proceedings.
