Private legal practitioner and Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, Andy Appiah-Kubi, has denied claims that he held discussions with former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, regarding his decision to withdraw from representing Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

According to him, the allegations were baseless speculation and challenged anyone making such claims to provide evidence.

“I can assure you that I haven’t met Bawumia on this matter. I haven’t even seen the flagbearer’s wife for the whole year, so where does the allegation come from that I confronted her, and there were insults?” he stated.

Speaking on the matter on TV3’s programme, The Key Points, on Saturday, the former legal counsel to Chairman Wontumi said he had heard several opinions and rumours circulating in the public space but saw no reason to respond to unsubstantiated claims.

According to him, there has never been any meeting between himself and Dr. Bawumia in which he suggested that it would be impossible to secure an acquittal for his client.

“I don’t know if there is anybody who can bear witness to a meeting between myself and the flagbearer where I told him that it was impossible to get an acquittal for my client. That conversation has never happened,” he stressed.

Appiah-Kubi expressed concern about the increasing politicisation of court cases, noting that legal matters should be allowed to proceed without partisan interpretations and speculation.

He also rejected reports suggesting that he confronted the wife of the NPP flagbearer and exchanged insults with her.

“I saw a video of a journalist speaking about the fact that I confronted the wife of the flagbearer, and there were insults. Nothing of that sort has ever happened. I haven’t even seen the wife of the flagbearer the whole year,” he said.

The former lawmaker challenged those spreading the allegations to provide proof, including evidence of the alleged meeting, location, date, and time.

He maintained that the claims were not worth responding to because they lacked credibility and a factual basis.

His comments come amid ongoing public discussion over his withdrawal from Chairman Wontumi’s legal team, a development that has generated widespread speculation within political circles.
