Director of Communications for the United Party, Solomon Owusu, has predicted a significant decline in the electoral fortunes of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2028 general elections.
He warned that the party could secure as little as 18 percent of the national vote if it fails to make the right strategic decisions.
Speaking on Joy Prime Insight on Saturday morning, Solomon Owusu argued that the NPP’s performance in the 2024 elections should serve as a lesson for the party’s leadership as it prepares for the next electoral cycle.

According to him, the party’s previous ticket, led by former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and his running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (Napo), achieved a result that should not be ignored when future decisions are being made.
He maintained that since Dr. Bawumia has emerged as the NPP’s presidential candidate for the 2028 elections, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh should automatically retain his position as running mate.
The United Party communicator suggested that replacing Napo could further weaken the NPP’s electoral prospects and potentially push the party’s support down to 18 percent, a figure he said some political observers have already predicted.
He questioned the rationale behind changing a ticket that had already been tested at the polls, insisting that continuity could provide a stronger foundation for rebuilding the party ahead of the next election.
Solomon Owusu also urged NPP members to remain united and avoid internal disputes over leadership and ticket selection, stressing that unnecessary divisions could undermine the party’s chances of returning to power.
