Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dominic Ayine, will soon engage officials of the United States Department of Justice in high-level bilateral discussions aimed at addressing outstanding extradition requests between the two countries.

The planned talks come amid growing cooperation between Ghana and the United States on legal and judicial matters, following the successful extradition of former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe Attionu, to Ghana.

Government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu has disclosed.

Sedina Tamakloe Attionu was extradited to Ghana on Tuesday, June 9, after years of legal proceedings and efforts by Ghanaian authorities to secure her return.

She had failed to appear before the courts during her trial and was subsequently sought by law enforcement agencies.

Upon her arrival, officials of the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Prisons Service took her into custody to facilitate the necessary legal and administrative processes for the commencement of her prison sentence.

Commenting on the development in a Facebook post, Felix Kwakye Ofosu stated that the upcoming engagement between Attorney-General Dominic Ayine and officials of the US Department of Justice would focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation in extradition matters and resolving all pending requests involving both countries.

He indicated that the discussions are expected to cover several high-profile cases currently attracting public attention.

Among the issues likely to feature prominently is Ghana’s request for the extradition of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, who is currently the subject of investigations by state authorities. Government officials have maintained that all lawful measures will be pursued to secure his return should extradition proceedings become necessary.

The bilateral meeting is also expected to address requests from the United States seeking the extradition of individuals wanted in connection with various criminal investigations and prosecutions. Among those reportedly being sought by American authorities is a suspect identified as Abu Trica.

The forthcoming talks are expected to deepen legal cooperation between Ghana and the United States while reinforcing both countries’ commitment to combating crime and ensuring accountability through established international legal processes.
